The Richard Tucker Award is selected by conferral, rather than audition.  This prestigious award carries not only the name of Richard Tucker and a cash proze of $30,000, but also a stellar list of past recipients.  The operative guideline for the Richard Tucker Award is that it be awarded to an American singer poised on the efdge of a major national and international career, and it is hoped that the award acts as a well-timed catalyst to elevate the artist's career to even greater heights. Brandon Jovanovich has garnered rave reviews internationally and is currently at the Florida Grand Opera in Miami creating the role of Levin in the world premiere of David Carlson’s Anna Karenina, a co-production which will travel to Opera Theater of St. Louis in June. He has sung leading roles at La Scala, New York City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, the Dallas Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Palm Beach Opera, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Opera National de Bordeux, among many other theaters. A native of Billings, Montana, he received his training at Northern Arizona University and at Manhattan School of Music.  He was a member of young artist programs at Seattle and Santa Fe Operas and won the Crawley Award from the Young Patronesses of the Opera/Florida Grand Opera Voice Competition.  In 2004 he was awarded the prestigious ARIA award.

Mr. Jovanovich began the 2006-07season with a return to De Vlaamse Opera to sing Cavaradossi in Tosca.  He also sang the title role in Candide with Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Turridu in Cavalleria rusicana with Palm Beach Opera, and Steva in Jenufa with Angers/Nantes Opera in France. Future engagements include Cavadarossi with the Bregenz Festival in Austria and the Seattle Opera, Turridu in a new production opening the New York City Opera fall season, Macduff in Macbeth with the Dallas Opera, and debuts with the Glyndebourne Festival and Lyric Opera of Chicago.  It is hoped he will also appear at the 2007 Richard Tucker Gala on November 4, 2007 at Avery Fisher Hall.

Mr. Jovanovich’s 2004-05 season commenced with his critically acclaimed debut at the Teatro alla Scala in the title role of Les contes d’Hoffmann: “A revelation…perfect diction, healthy singing and elegance of line, timbre of a true tenor…a Phoenix” (Corriere della Sera ~ Paolo Isotta). Other career highlights have included Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at New York City Opera and for his German debut at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, his first Turridu in Dallas Opera, the title role in Werther with Opera de Lille (France), and his return to the Opera National de Bordeaux singing his first Cavaradossi.
